Privacy Policy

What is a Privacy Policy?

A privacy policy is a statement or a legal document that discloses some or all of the ways a party gathers, uses, discloses, and manages a customer or client's data. It fulfills a legal requirement to protect a customer or client's privacy. Personal information can be anything that can be used to identify an individual, not limited to but including name, address, date of birth, marital status, contact information, ID issue and expiry date, financial records, credit information, medical history, where one travels, and intentions to acquire goods and services. In the case of a business it is often a statement that declares a party's policy on how it collects, stores, and releases personal information it collects. It informs the client what specific information is collected, and whether it is kept confidential, shared with partners, or sold to other firms or enterprises.

The exact contents of a privacy policy will depend upon the applicable law and may need to address requirements across geographical boundaries and legal jurisdictions. Most countries have their own legislation and guidelines of who is covered, what information can be collected, and what it can be used for. In general, data protection laws in Europe cover the private sector as well as the public sector. Their privacy laws apply not only to government operations but also to private enterprises and commercial transactions.

When I create a website I add both a Privacy Policy and a Terms of Service and they need to be link together. Google checks for these on websites more so on websites that have an SSL certificate, meaning that you have a secure area for whatever reason and you are gathering information of some kind. This also protects you as well. California has some strict laws about internet privacy so it is best to have them regardless.

Below is a simple example of a Privacy Policy. For your business I would create a very detailed version along with a Terms of Service.

Privacy Policy:

Your privacy is very important to me. Accordingly, I have developed this Policy in order for you to understand how I collect, use, communicate and disclose and make use of personal information. The following outlines my privacy policy.

Before or at the time of collecting personal information, I will identify the purposes for which information is being collected.

I will only retain personal information as long as necessary for the fulfillment of the purposes for an employment opportunity.

Personal data should be relevant to the purposes for which it is to be used, and, to the extent necessary for those purposes, should be accurate, complete, and up-to-date.

I will protect personal information by reasonable security safeguards against loss or theft to the best of my ability.

I am committed to conducting my personal portfolio in accordance with these principles in order to ensure that the confidentiality of personal information is protected and maintained.

This website: www.jamesdesigns.com is my personal portfolio and is strictly used to find a career opportunity and nothing more.
